New Hampshire's Community Action Agencies, established in 1965, are private, nonprofit corporations with boards of directors composed of representatives of the private sector, public officials, and low-income individuals. We are governed by federal and state laws, and our funding is a mix of federal, state, local and private resources. We are geographically designed along county lines, either single or multi-county in service area, and together we serve every one of the 234 cities and towns in our state.

With local direction and management, New Hampshire CAAs are able to respond quickly and effectively to the variety of needs of our disadvantaged population. We work closely with local, state and federal governments, as well as other social service agencies and private industry to maximize the impact of each dollar in providing comprehensive services. For example, for every $1 of federal Community Service Block Grant funding, the NH Network leveraged $14.84 from state, local, and private sources, including the value of volunteer hours.

Our agencies operate similar core programs such as Head Start, Weatherization and the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (Fuel Assistance), but each agency operates programs reflecting unique, local needs. So while one Community Action Agency may specialize in housing and senior services and another in health and nutrition, all are committed to improving the lives of those in need across the state.
